Slumdog Millionaire Movie Review
Slumdog is a film that explains how a street boy in Mumbai, India, Jamal Malik gets into a TV show known as Who Wants to be a Millionaire. One of the surprising incidences that take place during the television show is the ability of the boy to answer all the questions correctly. For instance, when the boy is asked to say the name of a person whose picture appears in an American banknote, the boy answers it correctly to the astonishment of the viewers. Given that the child grew in the slums, we expect that he does not know more about money but the film takes us into a flashback in the childhood of the boy where he had obtained such a banknote but she was unable to know the exact value of the note since he was illiterate. Later, the police took him for interrogation when he is only one question away from winning the prize of 20 million rupees.
The director of the film creates it in such a way that the viewer can understand how the boy was able to answer all the questions correctly by relating it with an experience that he went through in his early life. For instance, in the case of a banknote, he was searching for a girl whom they grew up together and whom he had fallen in love with. His friend was abducted by villains and taken to the streets. However, in his search, he meets a friend who went through the same situation as his and who became blind in the process. When she asks about the appearance of the note, the boy offers the note as a gift to her. Even though Jamal does not know how to read, he describes the image that appears on the note in an avid manner to the extent that his friend is able to tell the denomination of the note though she has not seen it since she is blind. In turn, the friend informs him on the whereabouts of his childhood friend and lover.
