SECOND: Write a one-page reflection following the instructions below.
1) In the first paragraph give a brief summary of the Webinar, using enough detail to demonstrate to me that you watched and paid attention to the whole thing from start to finish.
2) In the second paragraph, explain what stood out for you. Guiding questions: What did you notice? What did you learn? What do you want to remember? Why was it NOT a waste to spend one hour of your time listening to these journalist professionals (with their beautiful British accents), talk about the world, its challenges, and the biggest challenge of all: reporting truthfully about the news, week in and week out? Show me your thought process. Make connections between the Webinar and other things you may know or may have learned this semester from our class or elsewhere.

The Economist Webinar Reflection
The webinar hosted by Helen Joyce with Nauta and Patrick as guest panelists paint a picture of what a life of a commercial or economist journalist is all about. The panelists' discussions provide insights into how they fetch for news worth items and trends, with both alluding to social media trends. Patrick argues that he does observe the trend on TikTok to understand whether there is a new twist or change in a news trend from the previous day whenever he wakes up. On the other hand, Nauta also tends to check on the emerging trends in the earlier days as she is aware that the news trends can change within a small window. In general, the webinar is all about the daily routine as far as looking for sources and remaining relevant with their stories are concerned.
Two things stand out from the contributions of the two journalists at The Economists. One is indeed the preparedness of journalists at all times. It is clear from the narrated experiences of both Patrick and Nauta that journalists are expected to have the nose for newsworthy items and constantly remain alert on the trends and twists that are likely to occur on various news. As Nauta puts it, it only takes a blink of an eye for a news story to take a different direction. Therefore, for journalists to remain updated on the news trends, they need to follow up on the previous day's status on certain news items to determine whether they have taken different paths or not.
