discussion 6. The time for thinkers has come. Toulmin model

Essay Instructions:

"The time for thinkers has come."
Please remember to write as though this discussion is a "mini essay." Practice your proof reading, effective paragraphing, and the use of strong verbs (avoid is, was, were, have, etc.), smooth transitions, and a conclusion that wraps up your ideas well.
TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION:
Chapter 8 in the textbook discusses the Toulmin Model (from critical thinking to argument 5th edition book). How does this differ from a standard thesis essay? Why is a claim more complex than a thesis?
Chapter 9 discusses fallacies. Which fallacies are you thinking about using for the two mandatory fallacies in Essay Three? Why? What did you learn about logic from Chapter 9? How will this help you to develop your argument in Essay Three in a more sophisticated manner than in Essay Two?
In addition, dig up plenty of cool facts and ideas to share. How is your Essay Three topic more than merely an informational one? What are the two opposing arguments? How do you intend to develop the full arc of your argument, which will be based upon your thesis statement?
Lastly, how do you intend to make your essay fun and entertaining to read rather than merely dry and boring? It's always worth remembering that essays should be enjoyable to read. I hate to say it, but most of the time, a well crafted essay is more fun to read than it was to write. If you find yourself loathing the idea of writing Essay Three, then it shouldn't feel that way to the reader once you finished writing it. All of us have faked being excited about something that we are really not so stoked about. Unfortunately, that's just a part of life. So . . . be sure to pick a topic that is at least partly interesting to you! Your "enthusiasm" for your topic will be far more contagious if you are not faking the way your tone and narrative voice comes across on the page. Just remember: DO NOT USE FIRST OR SECOND PERSON ANYWHERE IN ESSAY THREE!
It's okay to use first person in Discussion Six, however. But, as you should know by now, second person is never allowed in WR 122. Okay, so give it a whirl and put your theories on a topic of your choice into practice! Make Discussion Six as entertaining and fun to read for your classmates as Essay Three will be for your peer review partner.
**Please note: you do not need to discuss every single topic for discussion. If you get the ball rolling in your discussion, go with it. Just keep in mind that you should be using as many CONCRETE EXAMPLES from the reading as possible. Don't rely on abstractions and vague notions. GET SPECIFIC about why you feel the way you do. You are required to finsh the assignment readings BEFORE you write Discussion Six.

Discussion 6
Toulmin model highlights that an argument requires, the claim that is the conclusion or thesis, the grounds with explicit reason, the warrant that connects the ground to the claim and the backing, which represents the implicit assumptions. In addition to this, there are modal qualifiers and rebuttals to strengthen the arguments. The standard thesis essays begin with an introduction, which provides a background to the topic and gives an impression to the reader what to expect. The Toulmin approach also uses a format where the objective of the writing is clearly spelt out where a point of view or conclusion is made and then there is summary of a position. Information is organized in a standard essay such that the paper explains what the writer is talking about. Toulmin places more emphasis on using evidence to back up claims since the aim is show that one makes a sound argument.
For this paper, I plan to argue that there should not be decriminalization of drugs as this would result in an increase in the crime rate and violence. There have been more calls to decriminalize legalize and tax drugs as a way to remove the criminal elements in the drug trade. Organized crime increases the likelihood of more drugs available to people, and drug users are at risk of committing crime to get drugs. The war on drugs has failed to dent growth of the illegal drug industry, but legalizing drugs does not address the issue since drug dealers would use this opportunity to supply more drugs According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) (2019) 17% of state prisoner...
