The individual must be a person with a great or noble character who has a tragic flaw which causes his or her downfall. The tragic flaw is a weakness or error in judgment which causes the character to suffer. The suffering produces pity from the audience.

The Crucible
According to Aristotle, tragic heroes changes from being happy into misery. A tragedy refers to a hero in a literary work whereby one character of good morals goes through negative experiences, which are beyond their control. Because of this, therefore, the character gets into a psychological within them. According to the movie The Crucible (1996), Miller portrays John Proctor as the tragic hero through the things he struggles with as discussed in this paper.
The play, “The Crucible,” presents John Proctor with heroic and tragic qualities and the fights he undergoes in his lewd behavior for Abigail (Miller 1996). John Proctor is described as a tragic hero because he struggles so much to do the right. Proctor is friendly, open, kind and hard working. Proctor also profoundly puts much of his trust in God. John Proctor tries to hide his adultery crime because he is in a town, which highly upholds the reputation. However, the affair triggers a series of many events in Salem, whereby accusations which are not proven escalate the internal struggle and finally to catastrophe.
Due to his desperate circumstances, Proctor decides to admit his crime, but it is too late to bring back what has already happened in the past. He is condemned of witchcraft and will be hanged. He is later on allowed to live where he confesses of seeing the Devil only to give his last lie because the lie cannot free him. Elizabeth wishes her husband to accuse Abigail as a fraud.
