The Critical Reading Response is a written response to assigned readings (typed). These responses will enable you to learn about what you are reading through writing. The Critical Reading Response will be used as a basis for discussion; accordingly, please be prepared to share this work in class.

Critical Reading Response #2 – Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution
Summary:
Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence is perhaps one of the most crucial works that led to the creation of the modern-day United States’ government. In this document, Jefferson discussed the reasons why the colonies (prior becoming the United States) should be given the independence and freedom from Britain.
Specifically, Jefferson believes that people in the colonies are entitled to basic human rights such as the right to freedom and liberty as well as the right to form their own government. This is in response to the different atrocities and ill-treatments that some of the colonies have experienced under the King’s rule CITATION Har19 \l 1033 (Harrison). Rights as used by Jefferson – despite being in its early stages back then – are deemed to be the things or actions that are inalienable and indispensable.
