During the colonization period, it was no secret that colonies were taught the ways and cultures of the ruling nations and empires. As servants, the colonies had no choice but to believe the ways of the ruling nations were superior compared to their native ways. However, from Kincaid readings, thoughts, and experience, the reality of those ways is different from what is taught and told. As a result, Jialin Li asserts that “the space between the idea and its reality is always wide and deep and dark”
However, other than the differences in reality and what is told, the problem brews anger and desire to revenge. Consequently, the problem matters most to the people of England as the anger of colonies is directed to them.
