Founded in 1935 by Cohen and Lehrman, Giant Food Inc. has grown from a single store in Washington, DC to 150 stores spread across Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The company’s success is based on an efficient structure and culture that enabled it to survive the tensions of World War 2. However, the structure and culture are coiled around its mission; “We believe offering safe, wholesome, quality guaranteed products in clean, modern and attractive stores is the foundation for consumer confidence.”
Giant Food Inc. employs an organizational structure that allows the company to deal with the fluctuations that occur in the market easily. As a result, Giant Food Inc. organizational structure is defined by three elements; differences in market conditions across the United States, business functions, and products. The president is also the C.E.O of the organization and adjudicates over the whole company.
