Procedure
During this part of the project, you will write a 1,500 – 1,700 word essay, revise and edit it accordingly, and post your edited rough draft for final peer review.
As you continue to revise your paper, review your topic sentences, supporting points, and images for specific aspects to support your claims. As you revise your paper, be mindful of the following structural guidelines:
The introduction should identify and describe the works under examination by artist, title, date, and genre. It should offer several sentences introducing the reader to the ideas raised in the paper. Sometimes, it may take you two paragraphs to accomplish a full introduction. Remember, the introduction should also present your thesis statement, positioned as the last sentence of the introduction.
The paragraph immediately following the introduction should discuss the first point in your thesis.
Each of the body paragraphs should refer to your thesis.
Source materials should be integrated in all paragraphs in a manner that supports your claims but does not dominate your claims. For this reason, the source materials should not be included in topic sentences. A strong paragraph will begin with your voice (topic sentence and/or expansion), cite research to reinforce your point, and end with your voice (analysis).
Your conclusion should reinforce the significance of the comparison and contrast. It should not simply restate the thesis.
Compose a works cited page in accordance with MLA guidelines.
Your essay must include 10 active verbs from the List of Descriptive Words to Critique Art. Be sure to highlight the active verbs that you use.
Once you have drafted your essay, review it for common grammatical errors (see the grammar exercises located in the previous units’ “To Do” List pages). Revise your essay accordingly.
Save your rough draft file in DOC format, named as follows:

* Your thesis should clearly identify the artists, artworks by title (if not earlier identified), and compare/contrast criteria (theme, style, lighting, brushwork, etc...)
* All artwork titles appear in italics, not quotation marks.
* Use topic sentences to begin each paragraph. A topic sentence clearly introduces the topic for that paragraph and makes a kind of claim about it. Be sure each paragraph develops only the ideas that support that topic. If you feel the need to discuss another topic, make a new well-organized paragraph for it. Your well-organized outline should help guide you.
* Avoid sign-posting. Example: "In this essay I will discuss..." No need for that; just jump right in like you know what you're talking about because you do! : )
* Do not use the construct, "In conclusion...." Again, there's no need. Simply make your strong, clear, and well-developed final claims and comments. And remember, your conclusion is the place to make a final claim as to the use of all the information you've just discussed. It's the place to answer the question, To what effect?
* Do double-space all work and indent your first paragraph.
* Do note word count and page numbers.
* Do set up all citations and quoted material using MLA format. Hint: that does not mean footnotes. No footnotes.
* Do note which organizational model you've chosen to follow in your MLA citation heading.
* Do create an interesting and topic-driven title.

Old and Modern Artwork
Creativity in artwork has significantly increased over time. Gradual development in technology has made a great change from the old ways of making artwork to more advanced modern techniques in artwork creation. The materials such as ink paintings might be the same, but modern art has changed the technical skills, making the artwork look more beautiful and attractive. These great changes in the field of art have significantly divided the old and modern, bringing out distinctive differences between the two art cultures.
The work done by Andy Warho, Merilyn Monroe 1967, uses modern materials in his work. In modern art, there are various types of art, but Andy has excellently used pop art in his work. He used a rectangular photographic silkscreen to produce images of his work. The silkscreen was important as they could easily reproduce the images in large quantities for advertisements. Pourmokhtar and his team (p4) discussed that the use of silkscreen begun in the late 50s, which was faster and more comfortable for a craftsman to make their drawings. In his drawing, it is clear that he used a soft brush to make the paintings. He made a yellow color shed for the hair, which he later applied a soft black color. The face is filled with a light purple color with eyelids shed in pink. The colors have been distinctively colored to bring a clear image of the painting, in which the face is clear with make-ups applied to it. Yellow hair and black eyelids are not the same. Generally, the face is not happy. Merilyn Monroe was a celebrity in the states but committed suicide in his apartment in the 60s. It was the same time Andy was thriving in his work of art. He used to love celebrities and decided to pay tribute to Monroe by drawing her image after committing suicide. His love for celebrities was exceptional, which he decided to make several drawings of her to come up with Monroe's several images before she died. When his friend Dorothy came to his store, she noticed images of Monroe on the wall. She then asked Andy if she could take a shoot of the images, in which Andy understood as taking a photo of the images. She dipped her hand into the purse and removed a revolver and took a shot on one of the images on Monroe's head. That is why some of the images are known as shot on Merilyn (Flatley & Jonathan, p2). The image has been drawn to show sarcasm, which has a beautiful face but has no happiness. Background determination is key in drawing an image as it influences the general mood of the image. From Andy's work, he has used a pink background, which signifies how Monroe was loved as a celebrity in the US. The image generally has a feeling of love and, in which Andy has skillfully displayed in his art.
A paintbrush is a tool that Andy has used in most of his work. He has used various hand techniques such as hand pressure adjustments to make the images appear clearly. In most of his work, he has used a variety of colors to bring a clear distinction of facial features in his images.
