Most modern Chinese writers have been extensively influenced by the writing techniques and literary theories of the west. In many cases, these modern writers' general attitude toward the traditional past has been either criticism or renunciation (Yi 77). From 1949, literature on mainland china was primarily focused on talking about ideological battles and political campaigns. During this period, literature was revived and prospered with the ideological emancipation and social development starting from the end of the Cultural Revolution to the beginning of the reform and opening up and 1992 when the country began to implement its socialist market economy plan. Artistic and literary thoughts and creations were very active, and literary styles, forms, and themes were diversified (Xin 17).
