The Chinese culture has shaped Dai’s works of art as he explains the communism and oppression of Mao in his film and literature but still, he finds the lyricism by Shen very interesting. Mr. Dai particularly uses ironic distancing in both his literature and film in the instance where Luo together with the narrator met the Little Chinese Seamstress as they went back to be re-educated. The outcome of Luo’s effort to re-educate the little Seamstress appears to be more culture-based making it very ironic as it makes her depart from the village and increases her desire to live in China’s big cities rather than the rura...
