The Blindside Analysis
It comes a time in life when a person has to stand for what they believe in, regardless of what other people's ideas. In Hancock's movie "The Blindside," the main character is being interviewed by a sports investigator regarding their achievements. The investigator claims that the Tuohy's family was responsible for assisting Michael in playing for the college team that the family supports. In addition, Michael finds himself in a situation where he has to review his relationship with that family for him to protect his future sports career. Failure to conform to the family's wishes could result in him ruining his career (Bineham 238). Given that he had been in and out of school for a long time, it becomes obvious for him to honor the family that accepted to take him and become his guardians. The turning point is important because a preconception of other people could ruin his career. Therefore, through the different skills of movie production, Hancock creates tension in the audience to show the importance of the theme of being assertive, a theme which has greatly impacted my life.
An assertive person is known to show confidence in everything that they do. Even though Michael was brought up in a broken family where the mother was a drug addict, he never gave up on life and kept on looking for means to survive. This was until the Touhy's family adopted him following his father's death. Assertiveness offers an individual the ability to push on with life no matter how tough it might seem to be. Michael's new family acts as his turning point since they provide him with all the support that he needs to stay in school and participate in his sports career. In addition, when he decides to look for his mother, he does so in a calm way and event protects the Tuohy's family from the gang that wanted to go after them. This presents him as a calm person who can stand up for their beliefs without becoming aggressive. Therefore, the movie is an allegory to real-life situations where people are faced with tough conditions which cause a dilemma on how to solve them.
