The main point in this article is the fact that there has been an increased level of awareness and acceptance among the general population in relation to the issue of transgender. According to the author, unlike in the past where gender was taken as an identity of a given sex, the current day gender is seen as a social construct that allows making a choice and adopting one that expresses their identity in which they are comfortable with (Friedman, 2015). The article also points that sex change comprises more than just the physical change of the sex to use of hormones in order to influence the physical appearance in conformity with the new gender. The author supports his findings from researches conducted in different areas involving transsexuals who were after changing their gender. This research points to a fact that the brain of transgender is different from the non-transgender which may be the reason why these individuals go for the change. The article also relies on findings of research on the effects of hormones on brain and body appearance (Friedman, 2015).
