Critical Analysis – Anne Bradstreet’s A Letter to my Husband
Ever since the inception of humanity, poems and other pieces of literary works have somehow represented the realities during the time when they are created. This is due to the fact that the interaction between the mind of the writer, his external environment, as well as the prevailing modes of expression, among others form a complex network of ideas that becomes manifest on how the writer delivers his message. One example of how these factors interact with one another could be seen in Anne Bradstreet’s poem entitled A Letter to my Husband. Upon reading and reflecting about the piece, I realized that aside from the sufferings that the wife was experiencing, both her message and manner of delivery expounds on underlying puritan and feminist themes. Thus, the subsequent analysis would show how these two forms an interesting piece of art, especially considering the time when it was created.
Puritanism and Feminism
One of the major themes of Bradstreet’s poem is the relationship between an individual’s personal circumstances and the will of God.
