Poetry Analysis: Skin I’m In
The poem, Skin I’m In, describes two different people, the black West African girls, and the European girls. These are people in the same age set, accorded different privileges. The African girls have no guarantees in their visas, totally no benefits. The European girls, on the other hand, have special considerations, including safeguards and monitorings. They both flood the country mentioned by the poet, to seek for jobs and education. The events recorded in the poem mirror the same that happened during slavery times, forcing the poet to ask the same question in her parting shot.
