Mobility
Mobility means to shift, movement, or changes. The changes that occur can either be of a place position, and it is also considered to be value-free. In the social ladder, the movement is considered to be either downward or upward. Social mobility implies for the changes in the position of an individual from one status to another (Chu 234). The movement is a process that occurs over time with people moving from one job then onto the next and starting with one social class position then onto the future because of what has happened to them in different sorts of the social interactions.
The changes in the social position of an individual take various shapes and forms. Some of the multiple ways of social mobility entail; horizontal movement, in this type, an individual changes their jobs and social standards tends to remain the same. Vertical mobility occurs after any change in the occupation, economic status, which can cause changes in their position. The change that occurs in vertical movement is either upward or downward. Upward is when an individual’s move from lower ranks to top positions while downward indicates that an individual loses their higher position and takes a lower one. Inter-generational mobility suggests that a generation can change their social status in contrast to the preceding generations. Occupational mobility means that there is change from one occupation to another.
There are various factors which shape people’s desire for mobility which include;
Motivation
Every individual has the desire of having better ways of living, and furthermore, need to enhance his social standards. In an open framework, it is on occasion basis to achieve any status; the transparency inspires individuals to work and have the option to improve their abilities so that they can make a higher societal position.
Accomplishments and failures
Accomplishment alludes to the unforeseen exhibition that draws in consideration of general society to the capacities of an individual. At times the achievements may affect the status if they are remarkable. Failures and the misdeeds also have the same impact that leads to downward mobility.
