The HIV Virus

The HIV pandemic.
The human immune deficiency virus causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. The HIV impairs the body’s ability to withstand the various diseases and infections. The HIV multiplies within the white blood cells, thereby preventing them from fighting against the various opportunistic infections. AIDS is passed from infected person to uninfected person through the body fluids. The first case of HIV /AIDS was registered in the year 1955 before it outburst spread in the year 1970. AIDS has killed over 30 million people throughout the world. Meanwhile, in the United States, about one out every 250 people are infected with HIV /AIDS (Korber, Bette, et al., pg. 1790).
It is estimated that at least 40,000 new cases of infection are recorded in the United States each year. About I half of the American population are not tested and do not know about their HIV status, thereby imposing more chances of new infection among the different populations (Einterz, Robert, et al pg. 815).
