Discussion 4: Sampson and Laub's developmental model and transitions
The Sampson and Laub's developmental model propose that people go through transitions in life that make them move away from crime. This scenario has played out in one of my friend’s life, after marriage there have been noticeable changes with more emphasis personal responsibilities and focus on accountability. This has played out as he spent less time drinking and engaging in anti-social behavior as was common in his late teens and early twenties. Having grown up in a rough neighborhood the risk of falling in the wrong company was high. This may be explained as one gets older, the parents have less control over his life and increased peer influence both bad and good. Additionally, with marriage, there is less exposure to peers who still engage in criminal activities, as one spends less spent with them. This has been possible after finding gainful employment and spending more time with the family.
