Ethics should always be a priority for any computer scientist, especially in this technologically advanced world. This goes the same for any professional or student pursuing the development of new software or product that has potential implications for everyone. As such, I would like to follow the following rules during my Computer Science study in the present and the future.
1 General Ethical Principles
1 Avoid Harm
One of the general principles that I would like to consider is to avoid harm at all times. According to the Association for Computing Machinery, ‘harm’ refers to “negative consequences, especially when those consequences are significant and unjust.” As a Computer Science student, I should make sure that I avoid harm by using reasonable foresight to determine both the present and future consequences of my actions.
