The book that we have been reading for this class is A People’s History of Latin America. Although such themes as leadership, power, corruption, and uprisings are evident across the various chapters in the book, the theme of power stands out in Chapter 5: The Battle for Central America (Horna 115). The chapter is interesting and I read it with keen interest to see how the author has brought out the different themes in the chapter. I found power as the most outstanding theme as it is shown how it came into play in various parts of Latin America. The author, Horna, shows the political wrangles that took place in Latin America during the nineteenth century.
