Palestine versus Israel
After the Holocaust and World War II, where Nazi Germany killed approximately six million Jews, Zionist pressure for creation of a Jewish country in British controlled Palestine grew stronger. The Britons announced their withdrawal, which forced the UN to propose the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states (Zureik, n.p.). The Jews agreed with this proposal but the Palestines never did. In 1948, Jews announced the creation of the Israel state, which the Soviet Union and the United States immediately recognized. Shortly after, Israel was attacked by five Arabic countries, which were defeated in the Israel war for independence (Gal, n.p.). After the war, many Jews resettled in Israel after being expelled from Arabic countries. All three documents agree about the borders because they base them on borders created in June 1967. They also include the possibility of exchanging territories and they agree on the rates.
All the documents agree on the continuity between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The proposals by the two states agree that a highway be constructed between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and the owner will be Palestine. When it comes to the issue of settlement, these documents agree. The Gush Shalom declares that people in settlements located in area that are to become part of Palestine shall be evacuated before the finalization of Israel Occupation. The document by Palestine claims that after establishment of agreed borders, the Palestine State does not want any settlers (Keller, n.p.). Additionally, the Israeli agree to transfer the settlements while intact as a form of compensation for rehabilitating the Palestinian refugees.
On the issue of Palestinian refugees, there is a clear difference between the Palestinian document and the other two documents. This document uses the words "Right of Return"; however, there is the explanation that Palestinian refugees shall return to the Palestinian State and Jews to the Israeli State (Keller, n.p.). This stat...
