Make a discussion to Instructor's Statement: In 1979, Emory Thomas, a noted "Southern" historian, authored a book entitled, "The Confederate Nation, 1861-1865". In short summary, Thomas proves that the Confederate nation was indeed just that, a legitimate nation-state with those requisite elements recognized under the general rubric of international law. In the past previous textbook chapters, there has been exhaustive examination of the comparison between "North" and "South" and chapter 12 discusses the origins of the Civil War in that context of comparison. One can posit that the Civil War was all but inevitable, a struggle between two very well-defined definitions of the recognizable nation-state. In that framework, slavery plays but just one part of that struggle. One can argue that the struggle was more political in nature, therefore the consequential "compromises" for example. The slavery question is just a peripheral interpretation stemming from the 1960s issue regarding civil rights that had been brought into the area of ante-bellum America historiography. Thus, slavery was not the main issue but rather two competing political and economic systems which constituted separate nation-states. Thus, one can agree that the "inevitablity" of the Civil War was already foreseen and unavoidable.

The Inevitability of the Civil War
Introduction
The American Civil War took place from the year 1861 to 1865 because of the rift between the North and the South states due to its differences in beliefs and practices which was affecting the whole nation of the United States of America. The 1860 elected president of the American government during this time was President Abraham Lincoln, while another government composed of 11 Southern states was founded in the year 1861 called Confederacy. This Confederacy or also known as the Confederate States of America was led by President Jefferson Davis and Vice President Alexander Stephens. The Civil War was not only caused by slavery as an issue, but rather the competition in political and economic systems that were present between the states.
Definition of the State
The North became focused on smaller farms in comparison to the large fields of the South, which also contributed to the people to live in urban areas and work in factories. This has greatly decreased slavery, also due to the immigrants. The North also led the improvement in transportation by their railroads, which produced positive effects in the economy (Norton, et al, 2014). The South, on the other hand, did not see much need for industrial development due to the profitability of agriculture with their large fields and labor force on the farms.
