In my opinion, the greatest president in American history is President Franklin D. Roosevelt. President Roosevelt was born in 1882, January 30, in New York (Whitehouse.gov). As an only child of James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano, he enjoyed a privileged life that offered him basic education through tutors up to the age of fourteen. In 1896, Roosevelt joined Groton School for boys, Harvard University in1900 and Colombia Law School in 1904 where he passed the bar exam in 1907. For the subsequent three years, he worked as a corporate lawyer in New York. In 1905 March 17th, Roosevelt married his fifth cousin Eleanor Roosevelt and had six children. In 1910, Roosevelt joined politics by running for the state senate seat in New York and won with a landslide and re-elected in 1912. In 1928, he ran for the governorship of New York and won, a position he held until 1932 when he became the 32nd U.S. president. He held the position for four terms until his death on April 12, 1945 (Whitehouse.gov).
President Roosevelt served four terms as the U.S president, a position he used to make the following significant accomplishments, which made me choose him. One, he led the Allied Coalition to victory. To keep the United States protected from the war that was going on around the world, President Roosevelt avoided joining the war and instead adopted policies of preparedness, re-arming and providing aid to their allies. However, after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the president took his mandate to protect his country seriously by working together with Britain and the Soviet Union and declared war against Germany and Italy (Presidents). His leadership was instrumental in seeing the defeat of these countries and maintaining the safety of American citizens.
Second, President Roosevelt resolved the financial crisis facing the country through the establishment of the Emergency Banking Act. President Roosevelt found the U.S. economy suffering from the Great Depression. In his first one hundred days, he sought to arrest the financial panic by ordering all banks to close for few days as he worked with Congress to institute a reform known as the Emergency Banking Act in March 1933. The Act permitted banks to give additional currency on good assets and facilitate the return of money deposited outside the country.
