For this assignment, you will need to accurately identify the article’s premise, significant points in support of the premise, and the significance of those points to the course and/or the field. You need to present an insightful and thorough analysis of the article with strong arguments and evidence. Your interpretation will need to be both reasonable and compelling. You will need to apply course concepts in your analysis.
As you write the review, be certain to analyze the type of conflict discussed in the article. Use the classifications discussed in the Unit III Lesson (Rahim’s functional outcomes and Rahim’s dysfunctional outcomes) in your analysis. Be certain to suggest communication techniques to manage functional conflict or, alternately, communication techniques to resolve dysfunctional conflict. Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). APA format should be used. The critical review should be a minimum of two pages in length. The main idea or premise being communicated or passed on in Yarbag’s article is that conflicts mainly arise from the differences in views and opinions and that they can be beneficial if used correctly. People will always harbor different opinions and often, many will find themselves conflicting with the ideas of other people. Having employed people who are of different character and from different places, it should be expected that conflicts will arise. Individuals will clash because of the opinions they hold and this will lead to what Yarbag calls conflict in the organization.
One of the points Yarbag offers to support her claim is that the presence of people will always lead to conflicts. In one instance, she says that “all livings in the earth have been in the struggle to live and sometimes have conflict with other things.” For example, if a person’s goal is to reach a particular point and another person holds a different view towards the former’s attainment of that goal, then a conflict ensues. When it comes to politics, numerous conflicts can be described. Politicians have conflicts almost on a daily basis and this happens mainly because of the differences in views and opinions. However, in certain instances, the conflicting parties are always able to put their differences aside, find common ground, and proceed to work towards something good.
This led Yarbag to purport that conflicts can also be beneficial. Apparently, it is healthy to hold a different stance than your boss.
