Propositions Defining Slavery and Emancipation (1833)
Introduction
Emancipation in slavery is the act of being relieved from constraints. According to history in America, emancipation is a constitutional term that refers to the abolishment of slavery. The abolishment of slavery started in the 19th century, and many activists were involved in fighting for the rights of slaves. Lydia Mary Child had her definition of slavery, and her work called for freedom and liberty to the class of Africans who were termed, slaves. Lydia uses various styles to explain the challenges inflicted on slaves. Comparatively, she also shows the relationship between freemen and slaves in terms of performance. This paper will focus on Child's propositions on slavery and emancipation in the 19th century.
Emancipation is a judicial process the calls for freedom to the slaves. Lydia Mary Child provides her definition of slavery, but her definition is not covered to entirety. For example, she does not give specific details on who should be termed as a slave. Although the overall objective of her work is known, the definition is not clear. However, she combines different techniques to make her plea known to the perpetrators. For instance, she provides a comparative view of slaves and free people in terms of task delivery. The objective of the comparative style is to provide a clear overview of the impact of slavery. Firstly, it is clear that slavery does not benefit anyone. It ruins the performance and degradation of industries (Child 291). Lydia Child also puts slavery sentiments in a poetic manner which helps create rapport in delivering her message.
