Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), was the seventh president of the United States of America and he succeeded John Quincy Adams. Adams had earlier defeated him in an election that was determined by the house of representatives. He taught himself law and he has admitted to the bar in 1787 in North Carolina. Born in Waxhaw settlement Carolina, he became wealthy and even he ought his own slaves. Jackson was involved in drafting the Tennessee constitution and he also served as a representative, a senator and judge in Tennessee superior court. His leadership left an indelible mark in history especially regarding fighting the British and the role and power of the executive branch. He is the only American president who was ever a prisoner of war after his brother and mother were killed by the British. When the war between Americans and the British broke in 1812, Andrew led the people into resounding victories which he termed as revenge against the British. He married Rachel Donelson who died shortly after he became the president and Jackson claimed that her death was caused by his political enemies who claimed she was adulterous. He is also known for hating paper money and only believed in gold as the only store of value and means of exchange.
