Metacognitive Statement
The primary goals of this assignment were to identify injustices in education encountered by international students studying in the United States of America (USA), take a position, consider the cause and effect, and propose the appropriate solution. In my opinion, I have met all these goals in the best way possible. However, I feel the need to research and come up with other solutions that can eliminate racial discrimination and xenophobia among international students in American universities.
The strategies and skills that I used to complete this assignment were effective. For instance, after identifying the problem, I started to search for credible sources from scholarly databases, such as EBSCOhost and Google Scholar. I ensured to use current sources to understand the magnitude of the problem and the feasible solutions that can be implemented. Moreover, since I borrowed ideas from other authors, I did not forget to put in-text citations and reference their work in MLA accordingly.
Before I started working on this assignment, I thought that only specific groups of international students face racial discrimination in American universities. Nevertheless, as I continued with the assignment, I realized that I was wrong and that the problem is caused by differences among learners, such as language, skin color, religion, race, culture, and ethnicity (Tsai and Wei 352). In particular, I was comfortable with how I presented all my ideas in writing. I captured everything relevant to my assignment by ensuring that I followed all the guidelines provided by my professor.
Specifically, I feel like this assignment helped me to understand the course themes. For example, I knew how to present my ideas coherently in writing. In addition, I mastered how to research and obtain credible sources from different academic databases.
