Face-to-Face Learning Versus Online Learning
People are always looking for a learning environment that can effectively meet the needs of learners. With its readily available learning tools and the ease of access to information, there has been an increased preference for the online learning classroom over the traditional method. Face-to-face learning refers to the conventional learning method that involves learners being given instructions in the classroom by the instructor. This method entails one-on-one interactions. To illustrate the differences between face-to-face learning and online learning, the two learning platforms are compared in terms of the learning environment, flexibility, physical communication, and the ease of assessing learners’ progress.
Online learning majorly takes place virtually without a physical instructor. Planning is not necessary for this kind of learning and the learner can learn at their own pace. Learning is, therefore, more spontaneous as compared to face-to-face learning. Face-to-face learning usually involves real classrooms that are planned and well structured and follow a fixed schedule. Therefore, with this type of learning, there is more interaction, discussion, and involvement of both the teacher and the learners.
On flexibility, online learning tends to be more flexible than traditional face-to-face learning. With online learning, multimedia content and learning materials are always available and the learners can therefore access them at their convenience (Gautam, n.p).
