Contraceptives over the Counter (OTC)
Experts appreciate the importance of providing contraceptives to sexually active women and teenage girls. Such prescriptions and appointments by doctors help solve problems such as reaction of drugs to the body and complications associated with use of contraceptives as well as reduction of abortions among others. However, there are numerous evidences of increase in abortion, teenage pregnancies, teenage parenthood, and complications during child birth among others as a result of barriers for using contraceptives. Such barriers include high costs, screening, and appointment of doctors among others. The present persuasive research will delve into the importance of issuing contraceptives and other birth control pills over the counter without prescription for women and teenage girls to reduce incidences of abortion, teenage pregnancies and control of the different barriers in the access of such medication.
More than 200 million women get pregnant on a yearly basis with 40 percent of such pregnancies unplanned. More than 700,000 teenage girls of age between 14 and 19 get pregnant annually worldwide. The unplanned pregnancies in the USA alone account for 49 percent for both adult women and adolescent girls. Besides, American women spend about five years either pregnant or striving to get pregnancy as well as postpartum (Kadam and Gaykar 84). Experts have usually debated a need for availing birth control and contraceptives without a prescription. Researchers reveal that unintended pregnancy leads to negative impacts on women, children, families and the society. Most of the women, who fall, victims of unwanted pregnancies, are at risk of depression, abortion, maternal deaths, physical abuse and neglect among others (Kadam and Gaykar 84). The current persuasive research is important for the audiences who are instructor and fellow students who comprise both males and females of the child bearing age. Furthermore, issues regarding unplanned pregnancies, abortion, health problems and social costs affect the audience either directly or indirectly hence the essay is insightful in providing the best alternative in terms of offering advantages of using contraceptives over the counter. Availing contraceptives without prescription over the counter reduce the rate of abortion and economic burden among families. Contraceptive over the counter is essential even if some people oppose the idea stating high risks of promiscuity among teenage girls and women.

Contraceptives help women to solve problems such as endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, and endometriosis among others. McCarthy researched reasons why birth control should be accessible in the USA. The author gives six reasons for availing the contraceptives over the counter with no prescriptions and appointment of the doctors. McCarthy highlights that women who use the pills find relief from the pains of complications such as ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, menstrual problems and endometriosis among others (McCarthy 1). Also, the author indicates that availing the drugs over the counter will assist women and their families in the reduction of teenage pregnancies, decrease in abortion rates, reduction of high birth rates and avoiding other health complications arising from unplanned pregnancies. On the societal and at national levels, the author notes that use of contraceptives over the counter results to a reduction of taxpayers' money hence the government will channel the $ 10 billion expenditure on such to other necessary projects (McCarthy 1).
