Hip Hop is a cultural realm that depicts the disadvantages of both socio-political and historical aspects of the black youth at the end of the twentieth century. Hip Hop is a type of music that originated from the South Bronx, a section of New York City in the middle of 1970s. Several factors led to the rise of this musical duty such as dislocations of ethnic groups and a limitation of the municipal services entailing cut off the federal funding at the late Great Society era. The loss of jobs and workers becoming obsolete due to the shift of the industrial facility and finance economy led to the emergence of artistic view giving birth to the culture called Hip Hop. Tricia Rose traces this era and place as an intersection has come from prophetic imagination, yearning, and social alienation (Rose 80). In consideration of different factors, including technological growth, postindustrial circumstances, and Afro-diasporic cultural effects led to the production of the cultural group referred to us rap music.
Rap music shows the gleeful and aggressive aspects that encompass survival, social criticism, and celebration to the African American and Latino population groups. The art of music started in a small region in New York City, later covering the entire city and to the nation and further to the whole world. The Hip Hop generation syncretized to champion for rights of the disadvantaged groups. Nowadays, Hip Hop has a distinct culture that does entail not only music and videos, but also dance, clothing, a form of expressions, and attitude transforming universal cultural dominant. The inherent concept of Hip Hop is the continued representation of visions and perspectives of political, economic, and cultural values of the African American and Latino populations.
Women have played a crucial role in the evolution of Hip Hop culture, for instance, the rap music at its beginning. However, the cultural values of Hip Hop downplay the efforts of women in the support they had for the evolution of this type of music. Some of the roles of women include performers, writers, producers, as well as executives in Hip Hop music. They have a significant impact on the aesthetic state and professional practices of both women and men. Nevertheless, individual facts are undeniable to women, as men have outnumbered men in the artistic and corporate of Hip Hop music (Ards 315).
