Leadership
Leadership is understood as the capacity of a person to influence and guide others. Leaders are required and are found in all facets of the society, from community-based organizations to politics to business (Solomon and Steyn 5). There are quite a few leaders here in my local community in Buffalo, New York. Different leaders exhibit different styles of leadership. While some have exhibited transformational leadership, others have displayed charismatic leadership while others have proved to be visionary.
Frank Heard is Gibraltar Industries’ President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Gibraltar Industries has its head offices in Buffalo, New York. He particularly assumed a leadership role when he helped bring the company back into profit-making after years of loss-making. Frank Heard assumed his current role as CEO and President in 2015. In 2014, his company had made losses of $81.8 million and in 2013 the losses amounted to 5.63 million. After taking over in 2015, the company started to make profits again. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, Gibraltar Industries made profits of $23.44 million, $33.67 million, and $62.56 million respectively. This individual has demonstrated that he is indeed a charismatic leader. Charismatic leadership is understood as a leadership style in which a leader encourages certain behaviours in his/her followers through force of personality, persuasion, and eloquent communication (Kumar and Krishnaraj 41). Frank Heard has shown that he is a charismatic leader as he has been very eloquent verbally. He also been able to effectively communicate with the people he leads at Gibraltar Industries on an emotional and profound manner. Overall, the charismatic leadership style used by Frank Heard was very effective. This is largely because it motivated people within Gibraltar Industries to get things done and get the company into profitability. He was able to improve how particular things in this corporation are carried out so that the firm that stop making losses every year.
Renй Jones is the Chief Executive Officer at M&T Bank in Buffalo, New York. Renй Jones particularly assumed a leadership role when he created a vision for the firm and led followers in executing it; a vision of high profitability and low costs for M&T Bank. Renй Jones was brought in during a tough time in the company when profits were declining and costs were rising. This individual has demonstrated that he is truly a visionary leader. A leader who is visionary is simply a leader who focuses on the future as well as how to attain success in the long-term (Hussain and Hassan 88). This leader has exhibited his visionary leadership by being able to lead a team at M&T Bank towards attaining a common goal of bolstering profits and cutting costs. He developed a vision for the future of the company and used that vision to mobilize people at the financial institution. His leadership style was effective overall. Renй Jones was able to act as a confident coach who guided M&T Bank through a difficult organizational period.
