Zara, a housecoat manufacturing firm, was founded by Amancio Ortega Gaona in 1963 after working as a clerk at a prominent ladies’ apparel retailer (Simchi-Levi et al. 159). Currently, Zara offers high-fashion accessories, apparel, and footwear for newborns, men, and women aged 45 years and below. The company’s success has been significantly attributed to its vertically integrated business model.
Analysis and Insights
In 1975, there was one Zara store in La Coruna, and by 1989, the firm had 82 stores in Ortega and Spain before expanding internationally to New York, Portugal, and Paris (Simchi-Levi et al. 159).
