Crocs, Inc. – Supply Chain
The footwear industry had a supply chain slanted towards two seasons – spring and fall. The companies would prepare for the upcoming fall season by taking their products to shows worldwide in January. Buyers would then make orders following the shows. The model was limited in that sellers had to estimate their customer requirements before the selling season. They stood high chances of underestimating or overestimating, both of which had dire consequences. Additionally, fashion trends were difficult to predict, and popular items had the probability of falling flat really fast (Hoyt, Silverman and Marks 5).
Crocs revolutionized the footwear companies’ supply chain, which explains its tremendous growth over the years. They looked at the supply chain from a different perspective than traditional shoe companies. They focused on meeting their customers’ needs whenever they needed them instead of waiting until the following year with a new product (Hoyt, Silverman and Marks 5).
