Essay Instructions:

You are to schedule an interview with TWO people who are at least 10 years older than you who work in an industry or role in which you are interested in learning more about. To help you best prepare for this interview and reflection, please read the following: Harvard Business Review Article: How to Get the Most Out of an Informational Interview.
Here are some important details to keep in mind for the Interviews:
You are to conduct each interview In Person, if at all possible. You may conduct the interviews via video call if necessary. NO phone interviews are acceptable for this assignment.
The interview should be a minimum of 30 minutes, as 45-75 minutes are typical for a successful in-depth interview. For scheduling purposes, request 60 minutes from each interviewee.
Please note, one interview must not be with a family member.
At least one interview should be with someone who works in an industry in which you would also like to work.
Develop at least 10 questions regarding their career pathway and their experiences in their current position—this information should be relevant and helpful to you. Some ideas for interview questions are provided in the assignment below.
***NOTE: Please make sure to send your interviewee a thank you message within a day or two days after they meet with you.
For the Reflection and Analysis:
After completing the interviews, you are to write a 2-4 page reflection (double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font), plus exhibits; you may add as many exhibits that are valuable in supporting or illustrating key points of your analysis. Make sure to include your interview questions and interview summaries as part of an Appendix. The reflection and analysis should address the following questions:
What did you learn from this interview?
How do you think the information you learned can assist you with your career path?
What information do you still want/need to learn?
What course of action will you take based on this interview?

Executive summary
Undertaking a networking interview is critical in getting information about careers. I wanted to know more about a career in business consultancy. I invited two professional business consultants Brian Bentley and Wayne Kurzen, for a Zoom interview. The interview was an eye-opener on what growing a career entails.
About Interviewees
The first interviewee was Brian Bentley, a business development manager with Total Combustion Inc. Bentley has worked in various positions where he advises businesses on what to do. I chose Bentley because of his wealth of experience in consultation. His advice will be critical in assisting me to become a successful business consultant in the future. The interview took place via Zoom on 15th November 2021 from 11 am. The interview was 50 minutes long. The second interviewee was Wayne Kurzen, a business consultant and coach. He is a Certified EOS Implementer. Kurzen is passionate about mentoring small and medium-sized businesses to grow through hiring the right team, implementing best practices, and appropriate marketing. Kurzen, in addition to being a relative, has extensive experience in business consolation, and having him on board was a privilege. The interview was done via Google Meet on 16th November 2021 from 2 pm, and it took 70 minutes to complete.
Bentley helped me to appreciate the importance of having a mentor. I discovered that a mentor offers valuable information and feedback that can allow me to progress in any career. Bentley explained that a career mentor streamlines the professional learning process. I need to consider whom I can have as a mentor as I seek to progress in the field of business consulting. Additionally, Kurzen indicated the importance of being proactive. He demonstrated the need to take the initiative and do beyond what is expected. Going forward, I need to be visible by making opportunities for myself. On the other hand, Bentley indicated that I should avoid burning bridges after leaving a job. He argued that I might never know when I might require assistance or reference from the previous employer. Going forwards, I will be careful to ensure that I do not cut connections with all the contacts in the previous place of employment. At the same time, Kurzen advanced me against putting career ahead of life. He said that it is possible to pursue a career at the expense of other important things like family, happiness, friends, and health. I would be careful to ensure that while seeking to advance my career in business consulting, my success does not come at the expense of fundamental things in life.
