Essay Instructions:

500 to 1000 words. Write a review of an exhibition at a museum or gallery. You must actually visit the museum or gallery in real time. Name the Museum you visited in your essay. Take photos (cell phone photos are fine) so that the instructor can see the objects you are reviewing. Talk about 2 to 4 pieces of art in the exhibit. Compare and contrast the form, style, medium and visual meaning using the terms and vocabulary learned in the course material. Talk about everything you see, not historical facts. Name the artist and the art works. You must put a jpeg. of each artwork, the images no larger than 300-600kbs, into your Word Document essay. Submit the document with the jpegs. included within it into the Turnitin dropbox. You must put your name in the document titles (ie: Smith_review.doc) and on the first page of the word document. Upload files that are written on software from Microsoft Word only, do not submit pdf.

This exercise gave us an opportunity to explore collections in different museums. Ideally, the exercise required students to visit a museum and write this report based on the museum visit, describing their experience and their review of the artworks that they saw. Although I had planned to visit the New York state museum, I settled to explore artworks available at https://artsandculture.google.com/theme/10-top-museums-you-can-explore-right-here-right-now/igKSKBBnEBSGKg due to the current Covid-19 regulations and restrictions on visiting public places. One of the outstanding features of the website is how artworks have been organized according to categories, time and color, collections, and popular topics. I found Blue Horse I and The Shipwreck as the most interesting artworks.
Blue Horse I

The work was created by Franz Marc in 1911 using oil on canvas, and it is currently located at Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, Germany ("10 Museums You Can Explore Right Here, Right Now - Google Arts & Culture", 2020). The artist used serene colors, a powerful equine presence, and harmonious construction to exude an authoritative execution. Further, the landscape is something else I noted as a changing sensibility exhibited by Marc in this artwork. It has pristine hillocks which are been done as different entities, but they have been linked by the yellow mist that glows at the valleys. I found the artwork attractive and interesting to view.
The painting has been made such that it looks real. The horse faces the viewer, and its hooves have been planted firmly on the ground. However, it has been done with such expertise that it appears weightless. Looking at it makes the viewer imagine that the house is hovering above the ground which is radiantly-colored ("10 Museums You Can Explore Right Here, Right Now - Google Arts & Culture", 2020).
