Midler's (2019) article focuses on overcoming the innovation valley of death. There are in-depth investigations on innovation project management for the Renault Company in India, and the researcher has little control over events. Interviews and observations are effective to get in-depth understanding of an issue (Wethingtonand McDarby, 2017, p. 372). There were observed illustrations of how the processes were implemented, the analysis of outcomes and the project management practices' effectiveness. The research highlights the successful cost-cutting breakthrough in the auto industry, but this is partly because of product development engineering changes at the Renault plant and specific to the Renault Company.
The specific site is in Chennai, India. Yet, part of the innovation project began in the late 1990s outside India, and there had been numerous changes in project management since the project was implemented in India.
