It appears that England's political, social, and economic dimensions have always been modulated both internally and externally. What was happening in the U.S also could also influence social development in England. The New Right in England is well reflected during Thatcher’s time; it is during this time that England experienced a unique political approach, economic and social application. Most of the transformation was effected ideologies of the Conservative Party, under the leadership of Margaret Thatcher. This paper will explore New Right social changes that were observed in England while taking into account critical assumptions that underpin human development.
England has witnessed remarkable social, political, and economic development since ancient times. The historical development of social history in England has been shaped by political inclinations and attitudes and collective social interaction. Social transformations during historical periods in England have not only been influenced by internal forces but also external factors that may include elements of westernization. The Conservative Party transformation led to the election of Margaret Thatcher in 1976 (Ansell, 2016, pp.145-146).
Margret Thatcher became the United Kingdom’s prime minister from 1979 to 1990. She formed a transatlantic relationship with President Ronald Reagan. President Ronald Reagan, who was a U.S president by then, influenced her in the integration of international liberal agenda, which is now evident in the United Kingdom (Scott-Samuel et al., 2014 pp.53-71).
Thatcher’s elections heralded the period of the New Right. It was marked by a formation of new nexus of organizations that were constituted by right-wing groups, intellectuals, think tanks, and media. The right-wing pressure groups included the British National Party, Monday Club, Freedom Association, Revolutionary Conservative Caucus, and the National Front (Ansell, 2016 pp.145-146). This phenomenon was described as a New Right; it was aimed at dislodging moribund social democratic consensus. It was an attempt to engineer a conservative approach. Pro-Thatcherite foundations such as Conservative Way Forward Conservative 2000 seemed to have played a critical role during Thatcherism time or The New Right (Ansell, 2016 pp.145-146). The Social Affairs Units and Centre for Policy studies and media provided an intellectual resource to Thatcher’s ideologies.
Monday Club was viewed as an authoritarian social pressure group that had links with the Conservative Party, but this relationship was later severed. Monday Club did lose its vibrancy, and it has been thrown into oblivion. Monday Club was formed in the 1960s and took center stage in 1979 by trying to influence Political culture through the imposition of conservative values at both national and local levels (Ansell 2016 pp.145-146). The Monday Club is perceived as a socially authoritarian constituent of the New Right, and it appears that its focus on social problems is considered narrow. Monday Club is known for its fierce opposition to the entry of migrants into England.
