Terrorism refers to the unlawful use of force against people or property with the aim of intimidating government or civilians. In recent years, many countries across the world have been facing the issue of terrorism. According to research, terrorism is changing the policing of many nations. For instance, on September 11, the United States experienced a disastrous event from a terrorist threat. The incident made the country to change all the responsibilities and paradigms at all levels of law enforcement (Weisburd, 2009). These changes included the creation of a new department of homeland security. Further duties and responsibilities were assigned to the department. They included securing the country air and sea borders, protection of infrastructure assets, collection of critical information, and coordination of the country security and all state levels. All these responsibilities aimed at preventing future acts of terrorism in the country.
Secondly, after September 11, the state government allocated more resources for critical infrastructure, intelligence gathering, terrorism-related investigations, special security events and information gathering, analysis, and gathering. Allocation of these resources aimed at combating future terrorism events in the country as they created proper coordination between all levels of government (Weisburd, 2009).Moreover, more resources were allocated for the security of borders, preventive patrols, high-tech computer crime investigations, and commercial law enforcement vehicles. Thirdly, terrorism impacted the functions of officers and investigation activities. Thirdly, more than 70% of police officers and investigators received new roles and responsibilities related to terrorism, such as emergency response, investigations, and gathering of criminal information after the catastrophic event in the united states. Lastly, terrorism changed the existed relationships between the local, state, and private sectors (Weisburd, 2009). Research shows that local and state relations became more potent, and the local agency increased its request on the state agency to more than 60 % on various areas such as forensic crime labs, marine assets, special weapons, and tactics. These assets prepared local agencies for the prevention of terrorism activities in the country.
Confession is a formal statement that a suspected criminal gives to admit that he is guilty of a crime. On the other hand, interrogation is an intense questioning session that law enforcers engage with suspected criminals (Welsh, 1979). Several rules guide the police officers while conduction the interrogation and confession activities. First, during interrogations, the police officer is required to prepare well before the commencing of the interrogation section. They do this by conducting a proper investigation of the defendant's crime. Moreover, they make alternative questions to compliment the resistance questions (Welsh, 1979).
