Why I choose visual learning
My learning style of choice is visual learning. Visual learning refers to the need to see things to learn them. As an individual who is self-aware and responds best to colours, tones, contrast, and visual information when studying and preparing for an exam instead of the oral teaching method, this learning style is ideal for me. Learning materials such as graphs, maps, colours, videos, or in-person demonstrations are the perfect tools that help me visualise the learning material, develop balance and alignment, make comparisons, and follow directions that lead to a greater understanding of the learning materials.
Methods utilised by a visual learner to revise
There are several methods that, as a visual learner, I utilise in preparing for an exam. Watching videos is the primary methods of studying. YouTube is an excellent source of learning materials about any topic, such as those in our class, tailored to visual learners. Utilising them expounds the learning materials by developing the whole picture of the topic and creating memories of the subject. Through the videos, it becomes effortless to recall all the information I watched.
Taking notes during class is another helpful method for my learning. While it can be challenging for a visual learner to remember everything taught in class, taking notes comes in to remedy this situation. Noting down crucial ideas, points, phrases and emphasised ideas in class appeals to my visual, enabling me to understand the content. Re-reading and re-writing them down again also helps to commit the information to memory, and tackling an examination with confidence becomes easy as I can remember many concepts.
Putting notes in visual annotations that include graphs, charts, or diagrams is another way to study. The visual interpretations of study materials are vital as they make it easy to visualise the concepts and translate them into patterns that ease understanding.
Colour coding the various themes in the reading materials is an effective preparation technique for my exam. Since learners like me respond positively to colour stimulation, colour coding different aspects of the notes such as yellow for causes, red for effects, blue for various reasons, among others, helps me draw an association of the class lectures to the different colour. Remembering the information as highlighted by the colours during the exam then becomes effortless.
Utilising a concept map helps prepare me for my examination as a visual learner. A concept map works as an outline that connects my ideas and concepts in an intertwined and straightforward manner, creating a graphic pattern that is easy to understand and remember during an examination. Having clear and colourful handwriting further enhances the map, making the patterns to recognise even more colourful.
