Crombie
Crombie is a British fashion company that manufactures high-end clothing and accessories under the Crombie brand. The company was started in 1805 by John Crombie and his son, making one of the British oldest company (Leitch, 2013). The company started as a manufacture of fabric and later expanded into making its own cloths. From 1960s to the early 1970s, Crombie-style cloths gained popularity with a clear cut line on the social status of the people that used to wear it (Roland, 1985). It was during that time when the suede head subculture, mod and skinheads had gained fame among the British. All throughout since its inception, the company has always kept on marketing itself as a brand of royals and international statesmanship. Currently, the company has stand-alone stores in Edinburgh, Manchester and London. However, it has other internationals stores across East Asia, North America and other European nations.
Crombie is made up of a team of strategic thinkers and designers who have ventured into the business of cloth design and production for many years. The strong marketing and production team has always propelled the company to higher levels of excellence that has seen the company survive for decade amid competition from other upcoming companies (Barnes & Joanne, 1992). The company offers a full range of marketing-led services and integrated designs for their customers across different spheres of their market. The company makes use of communications and advertising which includes the campaign strategy to market their goods to their different market segments that are simply classified into men and women.
By using the latest in co-working technology to connect a network of world class brand and retail strategists, designers and technologists, who apply design thinking, and decades of brand and business experience, Crombie creates memorable brands and spaces where people want to shop, to work and to play (Malcolm, 2002). Whether it’s brand and retail strategy, branding, packaging, retail display, pop-ups and store design, or even F&B, the company's management team has helped create some of the best known brands in the world at some of the world’s most respected design companies. Unlike traditional branding and design agencies, where about 60% of the budget goes towards overheads and operating costs, the company's ‘collaboration' model has lower overheads and so much more of their budget goes directly toward the actual project itself (Crombie, n.d).
