The term empire is mostly associated with the states which depended on military conquest for exploration such as ancient Rome and the Persian Empire or the British Empire. It is, however, important to note that empires may exist in many forms. After winning its independence from the British Empire, the United States established itself as an empire of its own. This paper will examine the key points both good and bad about having an empire.
After the end of the American Civil War, the United States placed itself in the service of American interests around the world. From different regions such as in the Pacific, Middle East and in the Latin America under the policy of Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft, the United States managed to expand through trade, exploration and cultural exchange and this enabled the country to look like an empire.
