The Past
The Twin Towers, located in Manhattan, New York, the World Trade Center location, was one of the iconic buildings in America. This was a triumph of human imagination, affirming New York City's devotion to progress besides being a bustling financial district. The building was completed in 1973 and was designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki, Engineers John Skilling, and Les Robertson. More than 50000 workers and 200000 visitors occupied the 110-story building each day. Advanced innovations and technology were used to offer the structure uniqueness and support its massive height and weight. Notably, the World Trade Center had great prospects between 1973 and 2001 as many business activities were conducted within the premises. In addition, it gave New York a fresh and advanced dimension because of its iconic outlook, making it a major landmark in the city.[Gillespie, Angus K. Twin Towers: The Life of New York City's World Trade Center. New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers University Press, 1999.] [Gillespie, A. (1999). Twin towers. In Twin Towers. Rutgers University Press.]
Furthermore, its heights and design attracted tourists and boosted New York's development. The tower also had prospects in the economic and sociological inclination. More economic projects were signed and incubated in the site as the unique development in New York attracted investors. Therefore, the World Trade Center was a hub for development and progress in the United States.[Gillespie, Angus K. Twin Towers: The Life of New York City's World Trade Center. New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers University Press, 1999.]
The events that occurred on 11th September 2001 remain significant in the history of the United States. The bombing of the Twin Towers occurred during this day. The building was targeted by terrorists and bombed, claiming 2977 lives with other adverse effects. The reported deaths included the 19 suicidal hijackers of the planes, 265 plane passengers, 125 people in the Pentagon, and the rest were within the building premises. During the day, more than 6000 people were evacuated from the building with different injuries.
The Present
The explosion made the building collapse, once an iconic structure in New York. Emergency workers, police officers, and other humanitarian agencies spent about one-year recovering bodies from the site. The plans to rebuild the complex site led to re-designing a new building that replicated the Twin Towers. The height was retained, and numerous modifications were made to the new structure. In 2014, One World Trade Center was officially opened for normal business as the replacement of the Twin Towers. In addition, a memorial place was constructed on the remaining area in remembrance of the fallen towers.[Lindner, C. (2008). New York Undead: Globalization, Landscape Urbanism, and the Afterlife of the Twin Towers. The Journal of American Culture, 31(3), 302-314.] [Sturken, M. (2015). The 9/11 memorial museum and the remaking of ground zero.]
The memorial covers half of the 16-acre site, while the One World Trade center covers the other half. The reflecting pools in the memorial site remain the largest...
