It should be noted that President Johnson, never contributed much towards the radicalization of the Republican Party in 1866. After winning elections in 1866, President Johnson had to work closely with the Radical Republicans who had gained the congress control. They admired his hard-lined talk, and his previous support on Civil Rights Act of 1866. The radicals wanted to eliminate slavery and to ensure the enforcement of suffrage measures.
