The image is showing that during the time when Christianity was spreading out in the Roman Empire, there was a lot of symbolism. In addition, the details are emphasized because of the light and shadow contrasts. The scenes found in the image are about the 2 phases of Peter’s life.
The Byzantine period came after the Roman Empire as its continuation, and Christians were naturally battling with Muslims. It became an influence to a lot of cultures because it shaped the Christian orthodox. Furthermore, the second largest Eastern Orthodox Church of today is a Christian church. It impacted the society of Russia, Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria, and other places in the world.
