The Linux community has released many distros for computer users and Ubuntu counts as one of the most popular distributions in the Linux world. The reason Ubuntu is the most used and liked distro is because of its user friendliness and easy installation procedures. Its user friendliness emanates from its likeness with MS Windows Operating systems. Additionally, Ubuntu offers good support for other hardware devices, unlike other Linux distributions where the user has to go installing their drivers separately (Grant & Bull, 2012, p. 2). The launcher on the left-hand side is one of the most attractive features in Ubuntu as it curtails the numerous procedures that the user goes through to finding commonly used applications. For office users, the Libre Office package on Ubuntu is a must use because, like Microsoft’s Office package, Libre office is capable of handling every job thrown at it by the office user.
Despite being the most popular Linux distribution, Ubuntu has its flaws that may not be very appreciated amongst many Linux faithful. With every Ubuntu release seemingly there are always bugs for the user to discover before they are rectified. This is different for Windows PC users as the OS is thoroughly tested before release date and even if bugs exist they are minute. The Ubuntu software center is a confusing store that should be done away with. Software packages in Ubuntu are not easily installed as there is a myriad of Linux distributions that are out to confuse users (Hill, 2011, p. 2).
VoIP has many advantages over regular phone services, and I would recommend the service or firms of even Universities. One of the main advantages of the VoIP service is that it is low cost. Using a PC to PC connection one can be able to make phone calls anywhere in the world for free (Kelly, 2005, p. 2). VoIP can best be integrated with business and university needs to make the communications more efficient.
Although there is a lot of work being put into improving VoIP services there are a few kinks associated with the service. One of the biggest problems for its users is that the service is dependent on electricity. Normal phones will normally give you a few extra hours after a blackout. With VoIP, this is not possible unless you have electricity backup. Another disadvantage for VoIP users is the lack of reliability and poor sound quality. This usually occurs as data transmitted over the Internet is scrambled.
