Apart from biotechnology, Genetic Modification (GM) can be an alternative food-related technology that may help countries (either developed or developing ones) to address food security and secure the human population from hunger. Specifically, GM refers to a technological concept of introducing deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) into a specific organism’s genome. This technology’s relevance is that it allows food crops to be resilient to abiotic or biotic stresses making them stable, thus increasing food production and supplies. GM technology does not have negative impacts on climate change. However, using technology to enhance food security can cause adverse effects on human beings’ health (Parekh, 2004). Specifically, GM technology products might cause people from developed countries such as the United States (U.S.) to experience health risks such as allergic reactions, cancer, antibiotic resistance, obesity, diabetes, infertility, heart disease, autism, and depression.
