The Vroom-Yetton model can be difficult to follow and understand at first, so be sure to go carefully through these three readings to develop a solid understanding of the model before you begin your assignments:

For this assignment think about a specific decision that was made by your supervisor in the organization you currently work for or have worked for in the past. Review the background materials carefully on the Vroom-Yetton model and think about how this model applies to this decision that you experienced. Then write a 2- to 3-page paper applying the Vroom-Yetton model to this decision:
1. Describe the decision that management had to make, and also whether their decision-making style was autocratic, consultative, or group-based. Explain your reasoning.
2. Go through Vroom-Yetton’s seven questions and apply these questions to their diagram to see what decision-making style their model suggests. Briefly explain the reasoning behind your answers to the seven questions.
3. Conclude your paper with a discussion of whether or not you would recommend this model to your supervisor and whether or not you were surprised by the recommendation given by this model regarding decision-making style.

Making decisions can be a complicated and time-consuming process. A decision that was made in an organization I worked at in the past entails coming up with a solution to several problems that have been facing the company. The sales were decreasing, and the company was also dealing with lawsuits from several customers and a low reputation in the market. The problems had been persistent for several months, and the manager called a meeting and enraged all members to come prepared with suggestions on the solutions. All the different problems meant that the manager required input from various members of staff. However, he had the final choice on the best option to follow, and the employees did not have an opportunity to determine the ultimate decisions.
The decisions making style was autocratic since the manager obtained specific information from the employees, such as how to make improvements and recommendations. Once he has all the information, he makes the final decision himself (Rigolosi, 2005). Even though the employees were considered when coming up with ways to solve the issue facing the organization, the manager was free to select any decision or ultimately come up with his own choice that he considered as most applicable for the organization.
The Vroom-Yetton model is a practical approach to determine the best decision-making style for different circumstances (Vroom, 1976). For question A on quality, the answer is yes. This is due to the need to follow specific quality requirements as a means of attaining improvements. Furthermore, there are numerous alternatives to resolve the problems facing the organization, and in some cases, some solutions could be better than others.
