The United States Navy is essential to the security of the country. The Navy officers get bad and good rewards as well as punishments. Different theories have been used to distribute the good and bad rewards and punishments. Rewarding people in the Navy as a security agency is based on merit, and it has to be done in a proper sequence that can be seen and appreciated by everyone. It needs a transparent and excellent theory to distribute fairness in all the operations. After working in the United States Navy as an aircraft technician, retribution, practical justice, and restorative justice theories are at the forefront of distributing rewards and punishments in the United States Navy.
The retribution and utilitarian justice theories help distribute rewards and punishment differently. The theories argue that people get punished because they deserve to be punished, which also applies to rewards. In the Navy, officers get punished when they engage in wrong actions as per the retribution theory. The retribution theory further indicates that punishing wrongdoers in the form of justice as the good officers are also rewarded (Zaibert, 2020). People can make good decisions and break the rules in a conscious decision that needs to be punished. Lawbreakers are less likely to commit crimes since punishments are directly linked to offenses. Hence, the retribute theory argues that wrongdoing is a choice and must be punished at all costs to avoid reoccurring in the future.
