I introduce Dr Reilly's excerpt from Hate Crime Hoax, and discuss parts of the true stories, and provide some of my own personal experience on similar investigations I had in relation. After the book intro, I highlight some points in your course book from chapter 11 with some personal experience and stories. Watch this video, then follow the directions for a written response.
1. We continually hear about how the police can or should be reformed, but what are your thoughts on how we can change bias or manipulative media, if at all?
2. Media spends hours of tv coverage and speculation, days or weeks of headline print on the issue, but in 6 months or more later when the investigation demonstrates that there is no evidence to support, and in fact, the so-called victim has committed a crime, the news spends seconds on air saying nothing important, and bury the story on page 26 in a section that people are not likely to read. Taking any of the examples Dr Reilly provided, does the media have an obligation to the public and the other parties who were harmed during this ordeal? Explain?.
