Several authors perceive the evolution of technology in different perspectives that affect and result in consequences. Even though they may have different views and beliefs, some common features, occurrences, and components still exist in technology that may look comparable. In most developed theories aimed at explaining technological evolution, human intervention also exists to satisfy specific needs. Innovation is the step that leads to progress; however, when innovations occur, they go hand in hand with casual recognition of how innovation takes place and why it is mostly preferred compared to the alternatives used before. Innovation spreads because it relies on casual recognition of its advantages. The evolution of technology draws the perspectives of Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler concerning technology.
Lenski focused on social media and cultural elements of the society, preserving an evolutionary perspective on macro sociology (Lenski, 2015). This means that any society that uses its technology to extend its survival will do the same over a society that continues to stand still. Leslie White’s perspective strongly supported cultural evolution adhering to the principles of Lewis H. Morgan and Edward Tylor, who were 19th-century writers, even as her view was in great discredit (Peace, 1993). According to her, cultural evolution resulted from technological changes, predominantly with the increment of energy harnessing per capita.
