The rapid advancement of technology significantly affects how people communicate in different parts of the world. Technology has facilitated bloggers who are individuals who inform others using social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, or websites. Additionally, it has brought union to people with similar objectives who discuss their issues on social media. For instance, at the beginning of “Technology and People,” Arab bloggers exiled in Tunisia in 2011 to discuss challenges they were facing and celebrate one of themselves who got nominated for the Nobel Peace prize (Tufekci 115). Indeed, it appears like Arab bloggers encountered numerous challenges in their home country, and that is why they were living in exile and did not want to communicate on social media but instead offline. For example, during their upheavals, some of them got arrested. But the best thing about them is that they supported each other.
Digital technologies have significantly affected how people do things. They facilitate coordination and organization of large groups of people, challenging tasks without technology. For example, many individuals have become used to communicating or supporting something using hashtags on Twitter. In other words, hashtags on Twitter show the trending topics locally and internationally. Individuals receive news as soon as they happen due to the power of technology. Twitter and other social networking platforms allow people to communicate easily with others in various parts of the world simultaneously. With technology, coordination is no longer a problem. However, without digital technologies, even organizing a meeting of a few people becomes an issue. The way technology brought bloggers from Africa and the Middle East together depicts that it unites individuals with the same objectives or goals. As a result, people from different parts of the world can share ideas and express themselves using technology.
Currently, using posters on social networking platforms, such as Twitter, to pass a message to people is more effective than using bulletin boards (Tufekci 117). Individuals have become more accustomed to electronic gadgets, such that they are not interested in things surrounding them. For instance, when traveling, a significant percentage of people do not stare through bus windows, but they are busy using their smartphones or tablets.
